Report reasons
Element details in the report groups the elements by outcome, then by reason. This is the complete list, as the report words it.
Settled — not a problem
Listed apart, on one gray line under the bar; nothing to do.
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Value already set | The parameter already held exactly this value |
| Existing value kept | Only if empty was on and the parameter was filled |
| No row matches, left unchanged as set | Map Values found no row and If no row matches is Leave unchanged |
| Not placed in the model (library element) | A type nobody placed: there is no instance to read from |
Set
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
| (none) | Written |
| Nothing found, fallback value written | No room, space, area, level, grid or table row was found, and the "if not found" text was written instead |
Excluded or read-only
These carry no reason, only a status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Busy | Another user owns the element (with Skip elements edited by others) |
| Read-only | The target parameter cannot be written (reported this way by Find & Replace and Map Values) |
| In group / In assembly / Pinned | Skipped by the matching Exclusions option |
Could not apply
The operation had nothing it could write to this element.
| Reason | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Parameter not found | The element has no parameter of that name | Bind the parameter to the category; check the name and Instance/Type |
| Target parameter is read-only | Revit computes this parameter | Choose another target |
| Target type not supported | The target cannot hold what the operation writes — e.g. text into a material | Choose a text or number parameter |
| Yes/No or Integer cannot be cleared | A clear was asked for, but these types have no empty value | Write 0/No instead, or use a text parameter |
| Source value is empty | The parameter to read from is empty on this element | Fill the source first, or accept it |
| Nothing found where the element is | No room, space, area or level at the element's position | See Room, Space or Area Data writes nothing |
| Element has no location | No point or line to measure from (Location Data, Nearest Grids) | Expected for some categories |
| Element has no direction | No facing direction to read (Location Data) | Try another Direction from |
| Not a door or window | Which room is set to a door/window side, and this is another category | Expected; narrow the categories |
| No row matches | Map Values found no row, and If no row matches is not Leave unchanged | Add the row, or check case and spaces |
| Workset not found or not unique | The Move to Workset rule matches no workset or several | Make the rule match exactly one |
| No nested elements | Push to Nested: the family has no shared nested families | Expected |
| Nested type: parents push different values | Two parents give the same nested type different values | Write to an instance parameter instead |
| Type: its instances give different values | The target is a type parameter and its instances disagree | See A type parameter keeps its old value |
| No Area Scheme chosen / No Area Scheme in the document | Area Data has no scheme to read | Fill Area Scheme |
| Member of a model group | Revit does not allow this change inside a group | Edit the group, or exclude groups |
Unchanged
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Left unchanged by the operation | The rules said so — an If Then Else branch set to Leave unchanged, an empty Map Values cell |
| Workset follows the parent family | A nested component always sits on its parent's workset |
Failed
Revit refused the write.
| Reason | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Value does not fit the type | Text into a number, a word into a Yes/No | See Value does not fit the type |
| Revit refused the value | Revit rejected the value for its own reasons | Check the value against the parameter in Revit |
| Revit rolled back the change | Revit undid the transaction the write was made in, so the value never reached the model | Look at the element in Revit, then run again |
| Broken connection in the model | A pipe or fitting Revit flags as disconnected | See Pipes and fittings with broken connections |
| Regex took too long on this value | A regular expression needed more than two seconds | Simplify the pattern |
| No number left: past 2147483647 | Unique Identifier ran out of numbers | Lower Start or Step |
