Glossary

Built-in parameter — a parameter Revit itself defines, such as Mark, Comments or Fire Rating. Picked from the Built-in parameters list, it is found in a Revit of any language.

Category — a Revit category such as Walls, Doors or Furniture. Step 1 of every operation says which categories it works on — see Categories.

Configuration check — the Executor's check of a file against the model, before anything is written — see The configuration check.

Configurator — the program where operations are written and saved as a .fdc file. Runs without Revit — see The Configurator.

Dictionary — your own lists of parameter names and values that the Configurator suggests as you type — see The Dictionary.

Executor — the FlexiData window inside Revit that opens a .fdc file and runs it — see The Executor.

.fdc file — a saved list of operations: rules only, no model data — see The .fdc file.

Filter — an optional condition on any parameter that narrows the elements of an operation's categories — see The filter.

Instance / Type — whether a parameter is read or written on the element itself or on its type — see Instance and type parameters.

More settings — the folded part at the end of an operation card, with the options rarely needed.

Only if empty — an Executor option per operation: write only where the target is still empty.

Operation — one rule: which elements, what value, into which parameter. There are 19 kinds.

Operation card — the right side of the Configurator, where the selected operation is filled in — see The operation card.

Preview / Example — a strip on some operation cards that shows what the operation would write for sample values — see Preview and Example.

Report — what the Executor shows after a run: what was written, what was not and why — see The report.

Run — one press of Run in the Executor: the ticked operations, top to bottom, over the chosen scope.

Scope — where a run works: Whole model, Active view or Selection.

Smart tag — a placeholder such as {Date_ISO} in a text value, filled in per element when the operation runs — see Smart tags.

Source parameter — a parameter an operation reads from.

Step — one numbered part of an operation card.

Target parameter — the parameter an operation writes to; usually the step Write to.
