The .fdc file

A .fdc file is a saved list of operations — the rules, in their run order, with every setting. The Configurator writes it; the Executor opens it in Revit and runs it.

What it holds — and what it does not

In the file Not in the file
Every operation: its name, type, categories, filter, parameters and settings Any model data — no elements, no values, no geometry
The order the operations run in The Executor's choices for a run: which operations are ticked, the scope, the run settings
Which FlexiData version saved it last Your Dictionary — it stays in the Configurator on your computer

Because the file holds rules only, it is small, safe to e-mail and the same for every project that uses the same parameters.

Where to keep it

  • As an office standard — next to your templates or on a shared drive, so everyone runs the same rules. One file can hold the whole standard; tick only the operations a model needs.
  • With a project — in the project folder, for rules only that project needs.
  • The Executor's Recent files list remembers the last ten files you opened.

One file for every Revit version and language

  • The same file runs in Revit 2021 to 2027. A category or built-in parameter that the running Revit does not have is named by the configuration check and skipped; the rest runs — see Categories only some Revit years have.
  • Categories and built-in parameters picked from the lists are stored by Revit's own identifiers, so they are found in an English, German or any other Revit. Parameters typed by name are looked for by that name — see Languages.

Saving and opening

  • In the Configurator: Save (Ctrl+S) writes the file; Save as… (Ctrl+Shift+S) writes a copy under a new name; the second button at the top left opens a file.
  • In the Executor: Browse… (Ctrl+O) or a file from Recent files.

FlexiData updates

  • A file saved by an older FlexiData opens as it is.
  • A file saved by a newer FlexiData than yours opens with a warning, in the Configurator and in the Executor: options your version does not know are ignored. Update FlexiData before running such a file, or before saving it again.
